Course to Steer
Course to Steer
Here a bearing has been dragged from one position (A) to another (B). The label at B initially shows B's position and its distance and true and magnetic bearings from A. At that stage you can optionally bring up the Course-to-Steer window, as here. Input speed, leeway, and tidal stream information, and PassagePlus will calculate a magnetic course to steer from A to B and display it on the label at B. Your speed over the ground (SOG) and the time required are also computed.
As you can see in this example, the magnetic course to steer can be very different from the true bearing, and this feature has to be used with care and common sense if it is to be meaningful. Tide will vary with both time and location. Boat speed and leeway could also vary. back
